Aloo Palak

Aloo PalakA side dish with gravy using Spinach and Potatoes. This is a very popular dish of North India.

Time Required: 30 Minutes
Serves: 4


2 Big bunches of Palak / Spinach
2 Big Tomatoes
1 Cup of Boiled Alu / Potatoes Cubes
4 tbsp Ghee or Refined Oil
1tsp Garam Masala
4 Big Spoons of Curds
1tsp Sugar
Salt to taste

For the Masala:

1tsp Jeera / Cumin Seeds
1 Onion
1tsp Khus Khus
1tsp Cashew Powder
4 – 5 Red Chilies or Green Chilies
1 Piece Ginger


Blanch Palak and run cold water through it. Let it cool and blend it to a puree. Chop Tomatoes into big Pieces. Grind the ingredients for the Masala to a paste. Heat Oil and add the Masala paste and stir fry until all the moisture evaporates. Add Tomatoes, Curds, Garam masala and stir for a minute. Add Sugar and Salt and mix. Add 1 cup of water and cook for 2 minutes. Add the boiled Alu and mix well.
